The name over the door is عروس. Said aloud it is aroos, and it means bride: one word for what the shop is mostly for, and the standard everything else in the cabinet keeps.

Aroos Jewellers is one room on Prospect Road that holds three things. A counter with a scale on it, where gold is weighed and quoted in front of whoever is buying. A cabinet kept in 21 and 22 carat and nothing lower. And a bench behind them both, where pieces are made, sized and mended.
The name picks out the biggest thing the room does. A bridal set is the most gold this shop ever sells at once, and everything here is arranged around being ready for one: matched sets in the cabinet, a bench that sizes bangles before the day, finished work held on deposit until the date.
The people it is named for come with their families, and the families come back. This is a counter for people who grew up with high-carat gold: who buy by weight and keep for decades, who give gold at Eid, at weddings, when a baby is born, and who bring a grandmother’s bangles in to be matched rather than replaced.
The shop has stood on this stretch of Prospect Road since [year, to confirm with the owner]. The rest of the introduction happens at the door, any day but Monday.

- There is no cart on this website and nothing is posted. Gold sold by weight is bought in person, with the scale in view and the piece in your hand.
